What does “CONNECTION” mean?
Connection may prove to be one of the most important elements we need to stay strong; that we need to feel “a part of”, that we need to SUCCEED.
Connection is vital so that we don’t sink back into deep depression.
With Connection with others, we can feel that Our Recovery is real.
Connecting with others allows us to have genuine Hope that we can get sober from our addiction.
Connection means, opening up just enough to get to know one or two people/peers in recovery in the beginning.
For many of us, this means going against every instinct in our body which says: “Don’t do it! Don’t talk to anyone… You can’t trust anyone.” “Being vulnerable is stupid.” “You don’t want to get hurt do you?”
One of the most crucial, deadening elements of our addiction - all of us - is the feeling of Being Alone. Feeling “different” than everyone else. Feeling “defective”, “different”… Feeling, and remaining alone in this world, is what our ADDICTION / DISEASE FEEDS ON. This is why CONNECTION is crucial to our success in recovery.
